Washing compsns - contg n-alkyl maleic acid hemiamide /vinyl ether copolymer as soil suspending agent

Washing compsns. contain =1 surfactant, =1 builder of the polymeric phosphate type, a sequestering agent, an alkaline substance and an alkali metal salt of a polymeric vinyl carboxylic acid. The vinyl polymer is a copolymer of ethylene and/or propylene with N-alkyl maleic acid hemiamide contg. 4-18C in the alkyl gp.; the molar ratio of the alkylene to the hemiamide being 1:20 to 2:1 and the degree of polymerisation being 5 to 1000 g. The copolymer is added in an amt. of 0.1-10 wt.% pref. as its sodium salt and is esp. effective as a soil-suspending agent in the washing of textiles contg. synthetic fibres, esp. polyester and polyolefine fibres. For mixed textiles, carboxymethyl cellulose is added to the compsn. to improve effectiveness as soil-suspending agent esp. w.r.t. cellulosic fibres.
