Ni hydroxide electrodes for accumulators with alkaline electrolytes are produced bypptn. of Ni hydroxide on a porous, conductive skeleton in =2 separate stages and charging and discharging the electrodes at least once after each pptn. stage, the skeleton consisting of a fibrous material in which the individual fibres are 0.2-2 cm long and 0.1-0.4 mm in dia. The skeleton consists of a random fibre mat, pref. of graphite fibres and the mesh of the mat and Ni hydroxide ppte. are selected to give a finished electrode with a porosity of ca. 90% and a density of 0.1-1.0 (0.7). Charging is continued until vigorous O2 evolution beings and discharging until the potential is zero.
