H2 and/or N2 are mixed with the Na or NaK coolant or with its protective gas or a material forming a pseudo hydride or nitride is coated on parts of the core. At or below the coolant boiling point, this H2 or N2 is released as the pseudo compound breaks down, forming gas bubbles that act as boiling nucleation sites. Esp. used in breeder reactors.
