Title mixts. for meeting the nitrogen requirements of the body (e.g. in patients with impaired digestive function), which have a reduced tendency to cause diarrhoea, contain (a) =1 amino acid and (b) an amino-acid free caloric material, the amts. of these ingredients being such that the ratio of the calorific value of the whole mixt. to that of the amino acid(s) is = ca. 8.5 (pref. = ca. 10.5). Amino acid prepns. are advantageously rendered flavoursome by adding small amts. of pectin.
