Internal safety seal - for shells, rockets contg ejecting payload eg parachute flares

The seal sub-assembly consists of an annular spacer ring preventing axial movement of the flare in the direction of the ejection charge at one end of the case, this spacer being located against an internal shoulder in the case, and a flexible skirted ring which is forced outwards by the propellant gases to act as driving band and prevent damage to the flare and its parachute when the charge is fired. As a further precuation, the flare is within a loose sliding liner ejected with it but falling away as the parachute chute depolys.
