1353252 Shearing BRITISH STEEL CORP 27 Dec 1972 60265/71 Heading B3W A method of cropping to length an incandescent, pliant rolled metal section, comprises cropping from either or both ends the amount evaluated from a televized image as unsound. The evaluating and cropping may be done in more than one stage. The television camera used may be optically or thermally responsive and the contrast of the screened image is adjustable. The evaluation may be effected automatically by a computer, a dependent control system advancing and cropping the end. At the "bottom" end of a steel ingot a standard amount may be cropped the televized image indicating whether that is sufficient.
