Self extinguishing films/coatings - by casting soln of polyarylate in organic solvent,evaporating and heating film/coatin

Film/coatings for protecting metals, ceramics and wood are produced by (a) dissolving a polyarylate contg. in the main chain a gp. in which the C atom between two aryl rings is bonded to a CCl2 gp. by means of a double bond in org. solvents, (b) forming a film/coating by evaporating the solvents, and (c) conditioning at 135-320 degrees C for 1-10 hrs. The polyarylates are prepd. by polycondensing chlorobisphenols, opt. mixed with bis-(hydroxyaryl)alkanes, and chlorides of dicarboxylic acids, opt. mixed with dicarboxylic esters. The mixt. of chlorobisphenol/bis(hydroxyaryl)alkane is a mixt. of 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)-1,1-dichloroethylene and 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane. Excellent mechanical dielectric and optical properties. Good resistance to heat, solvents, and chemicals.
