Process for mfr. of composite strip material composed of rigid fibres (I) reinforcing a metallic matrix (II) comprises (a) arranging (I) in parallel spaced relationship between two metal strips, forming (II) whose longest sides are parallel with (I) which increase the plasticity of (II) to allow rolling, and (b) rolling the assembly of (I) and (II) at a temp., pref. 400-600 degrees C, which increases the plasticity of (II), in the direction of (I), so that (II) fills the spaces between (I) and forms two intermolecular liaisons, ie. a liaison between (II) and (I) and a liaison between the parts of (II). Pref. (I) are B or SiC and (II) is Al or an Al alloy.
