Myxin-metal complexes prodn - by reaction in aq suspension, having broad-sprectum antimicrobial activity

The Fe (III), Ca, Sr or Mg complex of 6-methoxy-1-phenazinol 5, 10-dioxide (myxin) (the Sr complex being a new and claimed cpd) is prepd. by reacting myxin with FeCl3.6H2O or a basic Ca, Sr or Mg salt or hydroxide in an aq. suspension. Th complexes obtained have strong broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity, being active against gram-positive and -negatie bacteria, fungi, protozoa and helminths, and can be used in the treatment of external infections. The formation of the Fe(III) and Ca complexes is of utility in the purification of crude myxin obtained by methylation of iodinin.
