Phosphor coatings with grain-size gradient - for x-ray amplifier foils and translucent screens

The average phosphor grain size near the detector is larger by =50% than that at the remote side. By this arrangement, both the degree of amplification and the quality of the x-ray image are improved; the modulation transfer factor is increased by 10-15%. The colouration of the binder can be increased with the increasing distance from the detector to further improve the image quality.
