Exposure may take place before or at the same time as development. The web may pass through an inclined development zone, spraying being effected before or after passage through the zone. The covering electrode may be of sheet metal or moisture repellent fabric traversed by metal wire. As shown, a web 1 passes from a roll 21 capable of being braked to a wind-up roll 28 through a combined exposure/development zone, excess solution being removed by a stripper 29 and recycled to device 7 and drying being effected by a hot air device 26.
