Air is supplied under pressure to the track 2 and issues from the orifices therein to provide an air cushion beneath the slipper element 1. A battery-operated electrically driven airscrew 5 may be provided inside the dome 3 and the orifice 4 may be designed so that reaction nozzles of differing exit cross-sections can be attached thereto.
