1322193 Film reading devices RICOH KK 4 Aug 1970 [22 Sept 1969] 37453/70 Heading G2E In a cine projector, the free end 17a of film roll 17 is automatically extracted from opening 2a of cartridge 2 by a device comprising a stripper pawl 4 pivotable against spring-loading about shafts 18 and 11a to engage the periphery of roll 17 somewhat before a driven endless belt 9 on feeder 10 pivots against gravity about shaft 6a to frictionally engage the periphery and rotate roll 17. Shafts 11a and 6a are driven through one-way ratchet devices 22 and 36 on gears 12 and 16 which are themselves driven by the gear 15 through gear trains as in Fig.3. The film end passes between pawl 4 and belt 9 to the projector gate 44 and there displaces portion 42c of a detector 42. Lever 41 is thereby pivoted on shaft 40 and so rotates bi-furcated lever 37 on shaft 38 to axially move clutch ring 29 and disconnect the drive to gear 15 from pulley 27. Pawl 4 on arm 11 is then spring-retracted, while feeder 10 retracts under gravity. Feeder 10 is rotated about shaft 6a by a frictionslip coupling between the pulley 6 and the beltsupporting plates 5, 32.
