1323709 Braiding-machines E M HERZOG 22 Sept 1970 [23 Sept 1969] 44982/70 Heading D1C In a braiding machine the bobbin spindles carry a gripper arm 23 with which they engage the horn dogs 13, 14 in turn, and which are rotated to effect a smooth transitor between one dog and the next. The bobbin is engaged with a transferring dog 13 by the claw 24 of the gripper arm engaging a projection 21 on the dog. A block 34 is fixed to the end of each bobbin spindle 19 and is slidable transversely of a guide piece 31. The guide piece carries two rollers 32 which engage in a track 29. As the spindle moves between the points 26 and 27, and the leading roller 32 moves onto the track below the next dog 14, it is decellerated and is no longer rotating at point 27. The bobbin is accelerated to the velocity of dog 14 as it passes to point 28. Since the spindle is at a greater distance from the dog axis than the projection 21 it is moving at a greater linear velocity. Thus the claw 24 moves away from the projection 21; and similarly the claw 25 is able to engage the projection 22 on the next dog.
