1336429 Processing nuts; food preparations A M OLUSANYA 22 Dec 1970 60996/70 Headings A2B and A2Q Awusa nuts (Tetracarpidium conophorum) are processed to produce fluid and powdered milk. dehydrated nut meat powder, powdered shell (suitable for abrasive purposes), and pulverized skin membrane. After being washed in apparatus 4, the raw nuts are cooked by steam under pressure in a screw-conveyer cooker 8 and then dried on a conveyer belt 12 before passing to a shelling machine 14 from which the separated shells are fed pneumatically to a cyclone separator 20, pulverizer 22, dust collector 28 and collecting drum 30. The nut meats from the shelling machine 14 are carried by bucket elevator 32 to a peeler and washer 34 from which the separated peel or skin membrane is delivered to a centrifuge 37 and thence to a dryer and cooler 44, pulverizer 50, dust collector 54 and packaging machine 60. The nut meats from the peeler and washer 34 are taken by bucket elevator 62 to a grinder 64 supplied with water and the resulting pulp is separated in a centrifuge 70, the liquid or milk passing to a homogenizer 92 and the residual plup going to a dryer and cooler 74 and thence by way of a screw conveyer 76 to a pulverizer 80, dust collector 86 and packaging machine 88. The homogenized milk is delivered to a tank 98 from which it passes to a bottling machine 104, and also to a tank 106 from which it is pumpedto a spray dryer 112 and packaging machine 114.
