The concn. of Hg in the soln. is initially 250 esp. 60 mg/l, the soln. has a pH 2.5, the solid reagent is Al pellets, pref. dia. 6.35-12.7 mm; the contact time is 0.6-20 esp. 1.2-4.8 secs., =90 esp. 98% of the Hg in the soln. is precipitated, and the Al usage is 50 esp. 3-10 kg per kg of Hg precipitated. The effluent is passed through the pellet bed at controlled velocity. Economic rapid sepn. from industrial effluents is obtained.
