Disposal of effluent oil and water emulsion - from steelworks by mixing with coal for coking

The emulsion, in the form of waste effluent from rolling mills, steelworks and machine shops, is mixed with coal intended for coking to make a plaste which is processed in the coking plant, typically in a conventional coking oven. The paste is pref. mixed before being put into the coking plant and should have a total water content of 10%. The heat of the coking process distils hydrocarbons from the effluent and the prodsn. of distillation combine with other prodn. of the coking process. In this way, convenient disposal of a difficult effluent is associated with partial recovery of its constits. without requiring expensive new equipment.
