Secondary oil recovery process - using flooding agents contg oxyalkylated,nitrogen-contg aromatic cpds

Heavy asphaltic crude oils from tar sands etc. are recovered by sec. oil recovery process using a flooding agent comprising an aq. alkaline medium contg. as solubilising agent 0.05-5 wt.% of a water-soluble, oxyalkylated, N-contg. aromatic cpd. of formula R(OR')mOH (where R = or R' = 2-4C alkylene; and n = 5-50). The alkaline agent used (0.001-0.5 molar) is chosen from alkali or alkaline earth metal hydroxides or their basic salts, the prepd. material being NaOH. The aq. medium is pref. hot water or steam. Two pref. solubilising agents are:- and (where m = 5-20).
