Unsatd. carboxylic acid amide of formula: where R1 = H or CH3 and R2 = H or lower alkyl or the group R3 being H, or 1-12C alkyl, is mixed with an alpha, beta ethylenically unsatd. carboxylic acid or anhydride, to give an azeotropic mixture with water, together with an alcohol and opt. an aldehyde. The mixture is dehydrogenated and condensed under reduced or normal pressure.
