1287718 Making wirework heating mats KABELUND METALLWERKE GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE AG 19 April 1971 [18 March 1970] 24241/71 Heading B3A [Also in Division H5] Heating mats including a sinuous heating element 2 and metal bands 7, 8, are made in apparatus comprising two endless conveyer belts 10 mounted side-by-side in a housing, an oscillatable feeder 4 for feeding the element 2 around pulleys 9 on the belts 10, means for feeding the bands 7, 8 above and beneath the element 2 and for joining the bands together so that the element is engaged in channels defined by the bands. As shown, the upper bands 7 are passed between rollers 18, 19 to form corrugations 6 for the element 2. The width between the belts 10 is adjustable by screws (27, 28), Fig. 3 (not shown), the belts being fed in steps between which the feeder 4 is traversed laterally of the mat. In order to tension the element 2 adjacent a unit 11 for welding the bands together close to the corrugations 6, the pulleys 9 are carried by levers (33), Fig. 4 (not shown), and are thrust apart as the belts 10 carry the levers past cams (21). Two, three or four bands 7 and 8 may be used which are joined together by welding electrodes controlled, with the feeder 4, by compressed air. Alternatively, the bands 6, 7 may be connected together by an adhesive or by rivets. The diameter and spacing of the pulleys 9 may be adjustable.
