The calculation of the temp. and C-contents for a steel melt at the end of the refining step in an oxygen blowing converter comprises preparation of a charge blended to reach a temp. at the end point above the theoretical temp. use of a probe which simultenously takes the melt temp. and measures its C-contents. These values are used for the calculation of the heating and decarburising parameters thereby of the quantity of further O2-blowing and also of any coolant addition and the extent of reduced final O2-blowing. Various mathematical formulae derived from a static model are provided for the various calculations which are carried out by computers. The method permits the exercising of accurate control, over oxygen steel making. Only one probe is required for obtaining the required data.
