PRODUCTION OF POTASSIUM DIHYDROGEN PHOSPHATE-POTASSIUM NITRATE MIXTURES

1333252 Fertilizers FITZWILTON Ltd 10 Dec 1971 [16 Dec 1970] 59687/70 Heading C1A Potassium dihydrogen phosphate/potassium nitrate mixtures are produced by the reaction of phosphate rock with nitric acid and subsequent reaction of the mass produced with potassium sulphate or potassium bisulphate. Calcium sulphate is filtered off to leave a solution containing potassium nitrate and potassium dihydrogen phosphate. Concentration of this solution by evaporation followed by crystallization enables a crystalline mixture of potassium dihydrogen phosphate and potassium nitrate to be obtained. Alternatively this can be done by the addition of a water miscible organic solvent, e.g. methanol, ethanol or acetone and subsequent separation of the solids from the mother liquor. Furthermore the potassium sulphate or bisulphate is obtained by the reaction of sulphuric acid on potassium chloride or potassium sulphate.
