The gas is directed in two opposed streams which impinge directly in a pref. shaft-shaped chamber; this action decelerates the dust particles at the centre of the chamber causing them to leave the chamber in an increased concn. in a portion of the gas flow perpendicular to the entry flows. Pref. this gas flow leaving the chamber and contg. a high concn. of dust is directed downwards and divides into two sub flows.
