A microfilm camera has a horizontal slide which can be moved in steps and there is a vertical slide which can be moved in steps and which carries a film plate. Both slides have notches enabling them to be moved by transport rods fastened to discs and there are discs with pins on which are driven by electric motors. These discs rotate the discs carrying the transport rods to drive the slides. Cams on the pins switching the respective motor off displacement of the transport rod by one notch. With this arrangement the slides can be advanced forwards or backwards by a predetermined amount.
