The optimum conditions for compacting metal and ceramic powder in a metal tube by explosive force are given by the use of a curve obtained by plotting exptl. values of weight ratio of explosive agent to powder against the square of the rate of detonation of a number of samples compacted under various conditions. For the production of sintered articles such as electric contacts, semis for glow filaments, for bullets, for turbine blades of Si3N4, and reinforcing metal foils or fibres.
