Coating compsns., to be hardened by IR radiation of wavelength 1-5 mu, contain (1) an unsatd. polyester in which 40-100 (70-100) mole % of the diol component has formula (2) a copolymerisable vinyl monomer, (3) an activator system, and (4) the usual auxiliaries and additives. Coatings and putties can be hardened in a shorter time, reducing the risk of heating the substrate during hardening. The compsns. dry rapidly and harden completely. Hardened coatings are not affected by xylene.
