Device for ultrasonic atomisation of waste sulphuric acid in decompsn. furnaces comprises an ultrasonic generator with an annular resonance chamber at its face, a feed inlet for the operating medium, and a deflector for reversing the flow of operating medium into the residence chamber. The acid atomising spray is surrounded by the resonance chamber and located at the face of the ultrasonic generator. The ultrasonic acid fog in conjunction with complete gas combustion in the furnace reduces hexavalent S almost completely to SO2. This avoids corrosion in heat recovery exchangers.
