Isolating valve partic. applicable to high temp. helium gas cooled reactors in which the venturi profiled valve body is integrally mounted within the gas pipe line and encloses within its inner valve body two servo-motor operated parallel slidge gates which when closed form a press. tight seal. Isolation and downstream integrity is maintained by the interspace between the slide gates which is filled with chemically clean gas held at a higher press. than the purge gas in the surrounding chambers of the valve body. Leakage of the upstream contaminated gas into the chambers mixes with the higher press. gas from the interspace and flows with the purge gas to a separate cleaning plant. When open, the slide gates are actuated by the servo-motors to bring the circular holes in the gates in to alignment with the gas pipe line.
