Spiked vehicle tyre - using air pressure to extend spikes as required through air tubes embedded in tyre carcass

The air tubes leading to the spikes are in the form of braided metal or synthetic fibres vulcanised into the tyre rubber to pass air to the cylinders housing the spikes, to force them outwards under air pressure and hold them in place in their mounting cylinders. The purpose is to provide a tyre with a normal tread surface for normal road conditions, allowing spikes to be extended when slippery road conditions exist, in a rapid system without changing the tyre.
