Compsn. for preventing rusted iron corrosion - esp. in the presence of corrosive solns. esp. brine

Powdery compsn. contains 8-27g CaO, 0-20, pref. 10-14g Ca(OH)2, 9-30, pref. 13-16g CaCO3, 22-35g water-soluble alkali metal, pref. Na silicate and 4-30, pref. 7-10g Si- or Fe- contg. base. The base consists of powdered asbestos, alkaline waste prods. from iron production or desulphurisation, or silicaceous fibres, pref. asbestos fibres. Water (70-130, pref. 80-120g/100g dry substance) is added to form a paste which is applied to the rusted metal to produce a coat over 0.8, pref. over 1, mm thick. Compsn. is partic suitable for treatment of the insides of tanks and pipes in contact with corrosive solns., esp brine; rust need not be removed before application of compsn and coating is resistant to cracking and flaking.
