Protective corrosion on construction matls - esp. uniform insoluble layer of rust on steel

A stable layer of protective corrosion is formed on construction matls. esp. stabilised rust on weather-Resistant steels, before making the finished parts. An evenly- coloured, uniform adherent coating is produced which is insoluble in water, avoids the unattractive appearance of rust formed by ageing in service, and also reduces the cost of protective measures and cleaning. The parts are subjected to wetting by liq. then exposure to air, a pref. cycle consisting of preheating, wetting, heating and/or drying in hot air blasts, followed by washing with water to remove any soluble corrosion prods. The wetting liq. can contain chemicals, to convert the surface corrosion prods. into cpds. which are insol. in water, and also dyes to produce an even colour.
