Turret yarn cross-winding machine having a friction drive roller provided with an endless yarn guide groove for applying it to a wound bobbin and arranged to contact both the wound bobbin and bobbin core during changing of core is provided with an auxiliary axially slidable and linearly transversely displaceable yarn guides which during core changing lifts the yarn out of the groove to apply it to the end of core adjacent the machine housing, whereby each core mandrel is provided with a yarn catching mechanism arranged co-axially wrt the mandrel supporting spindle.
