A solvent-resistant filamentary structure having superior ion-exchangeability which comprises at least 20 percent by weight of aromatic nuclear structural units derived from an aromatic monovinyl monomer, 2 to 40 out of 100 of such aromatic nuclear structural units being cross-linked by crosslinkages of the formula ¦¦ HC-X-SO2-X'-CH, ¦¦ such filamentary structure not containing a crosslinkage expressed by the formula ¦¦ HC-X-C-X' ¦¦ and the remainder of the aromatic nuclear structrual units, either partly or wholly, having incorporated therein an ion-exchangeable group, and a method for producing the same.
