Thermally insulating tubes for pipes and which maintain their elasticity are formed from a matted fibre web contg. polyamide and polyacrylic or polyvinyl or polyvinyl acetate fibres, the web being passed over a pair of forming rollers one of which is heated and the other maintained at ambient temp. for heating the fibres on one side of the tube up to the shrinking temp.
