4, 5-phenylimidazoles - as antirheumatic antiinflammatory analgesic and antipyretic agents

Cpds. of formula and their acid-addition salts: (where R1 = alkyl (C2-C6), cycloalkyl (C3-C6); R2 = -oMe, Me, OH, -SO2Me; R3 = OMe, Me, H, Cl) are antirheumatic, antiinflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic agents. The clinical dosage is 0.5 - 50 mg/kg/day, dosage units contg. 0.25 - 5 mg/kg. Prefd. cpds. are 2-ethyl-4,5-bis-(4-methoxyphenyl) imidazole and the corresponding 2-isopropyl and 2-cyclopropyl analogues, 2-t-butyl-4(5)-(4-methylsulphonylphenyl)-5-(4)-phenylimidazole and 2-t-butyl-4(5)-4-hydroxyphenyl-5(4)-phenylimidazole.
