Cpds. of formula: X = H, halogen; R = H or CO.R1, where R1 is lower alkyl pref. 1-4C, provided that R is not H when X is H, Cl. Pref. prepd. by treating a 1-halo, 2-3-epoxy propane and then an alkali metal cyanide, and opt. esterifying the prodt. with an alkanoic acid.
