Reaction temp. is 150-400 degrees C. There is opt. 1-5 times the stoichiometric quantity of the reducing agent. The reactants are opt introduced into a liq. phase consisting of a mixt. of normal and basic (NH4)2SO4. The (NH4)2SO4 is opt. ammoniacal wash-liquor from washing SO2- and SO3- contng industrial gases. Hot gases from the combustion of a reducing agent are opt. introduced into the reaction zone. Higher yields of NH3 and SO2 are obtd. with satisfactory reaction rate.
