Insecticidal compsns contg thiapyrans - 4-(4'-methyl-3'-hexenyl) 5,6-dihydro-2-H-thiapyran and its 5-oxide have juvenile hormone activity

Title compsns. contain a cpd. of formula (I): where n = 0 or 1. The prepn. of these cpds. is described in the parent patent, FR 12656 of 11-4-72. In an example the Z isomer of (I) n = 1 was applied to larvae of Dysdercus intermedius in the final stage of development at the rate of 100 x 10-6g per insect. All of the larvae either died or developed into malformed giant larvae.
