Light-modulation element - having temp-dependent transmittance for use in light-point raster for holographic storage of binary data

Temp. changes causing variation of the transmittance of the element are produced pointwise on the surface of a monocrystal having a sharp absorption edge (pref. CdS, CdSe or ZnS), whereby a high contrast is achieved. The temp. changes can be produced with a grid-like electrode system connected with miniature resistors, or by means of a digital laser-beam scanner. The construction is simple, and large seale applications are possible (up to 10000 elements).
