Ampholyte mixts of aminosulphonic acids - useful as carrier ampholytes in analysis and fractionation of proteins

Ampholyte mixts., esp. of polyprotic aminosulphonic acids, are obtd. synthetically by addn., and contain =3 polyprotic aminosulphonic acids with =4 protolytic gps. of which =1 is a sulphonic acid gp. and =1 is a basic N atom. The ampholytes are prepd. by reacting amines R1R2N-R'-NR3R4 (where R1-4 = (M)e, Pr or hydroxy (M)e and R' = -(CH2)n- where n is not 6) with sultone (where X = opt. substd. polyethylene gp.) with vinylsulphonic acids R-CH=CR-SO3H (where R = (M) e, Pr or H). The prods. can be subjected to isoelectric focussing and are useful as ampholyte carriers e.g. for selective analysis and fractionation processes for proteins.
