H2S is removed from a current of gas esp. contg. other gaseous acids e.g. CO2 by contact with a polythionate at 0-205 degrees C under an absolute press. of 0.35-28.1 kg/cm2. The polythionate-H2S prod. is then converted back to polythionate by catalytic oxidn. at 37.5-260 degrees C and 0.35-28.1kg/cm2. Process does not absorb hydrocarbons which would foul up the circulatory system, as occurred previously while a less cumbersome, cheaper regeneration process for the absorbent is employed.
