An oxide varistor comprises a basic compsn (100 mol %) of 87-12 mol % ZnO, 1-30 mol.% Sb2O3 and/or Sb2O5 and 12-87 mol % metal oxide from ZrO2, TiO2, and/or GeO2, and an additive of 0.5-10 wt. % Bi2O3. The varistor has a nonlinear voltage characteristic ranging from 7-50, a low temp. coefft. and high surge current.
