Wrought Pb based alloys contg. 0.02-0.1% Ca and 0.3-3% Sn so that the Sn/ca ratio is between 5 and 10, are solution annealed and cooled down to retain substantial amount of Ca in supersaturation. The component which may have been cast or simply reheated is then cold worked less than 8 hours after reaching room temperature. The strengthening that results is attributed to precipitation hardening of the Pb matrix by intermetallic cpds.
