Process comprises compressing the finely ground leaves stems or fruit of chloroplast contg. plants, centrifuging the juice obtd by separate chloroplasts and cellulose fragments from water-soluble materials, subjecting the insoluble fraction to an enzymic reaction to separate proteins and xanthophyllines from chloroplasts, grinding the prod. to a colloidal state or homogenising it to mechanically separate protein molecules from chloroplasts and carotenoids and dissolving in water to dissolve the freed proteins and finally centrifuging the resulting soln to separate pigments from soluble proteins which are subsequently isolated. The process is not based on chemical reaction in which the components are freed or degraded and the original org. structure of the prods is not altered.
