The instrument is mounted on a panel and has a window for visual indication of the attitude or orientation of an aircraft with respect to the horizon. These indications are derived from the roll and pitch axes of a vertically mounted gyroscope. The indicating element is a directional gyroscope and is coupled to the vertical gyroscope by means of a continuous belt running over pulleys on each gyroscope and crossing to form a figure 8.
