The submarine listening buoys will consist of a float from which is suspended the stabiliser which itself carries the acoustic or electronic components (2). The stabiliser has a horizontal drum on which is wound the cable carrying the listening device (2). The drum is connected to a torsional spring fixed at one end which provides the restoring couple, when the tension in the cable is adjusted. When the swell causes the float to rise, the tension in the lower cable increases, thus unwinding the cable, and maintaining the constant depth of the listening device (2). By reversing this motion, the cable winds up again.
