Control system gives tension free coiling of thin bands of material when coiling is done using a flat conveyor belt as motive power. Coil carrying frame (11) runs in vertical bearings (13) and has a chain (20) attached at lower end (16). A counterweighted lever (27), directly under the coil (4), operates a reduction geared motor (17) through a microswitch (28) when the size and weight of the coil increases. This raises the frame by pulling on the attached chain relieves the tension on the coil. Fast raise and lower for unloading is achieved by overriding the system, using a torque limiter (21) and a power cylinder.
