1344731 Manufacture of carbon-dioxide ice ZUID NEDERLANDSCHE SPIRITUSFABRIEK NV and L VAHL 20 April 1971 [21 April 1970] 10123/71 Heading F4P Solid CO 2 is prepared by withdrawing pressurized liquid CO 2 from a storage vessel 18 through a valved duct 17 and charging it into a chamber 15 from which extend a plurality of vertical tubes 2 having a closable member 14 mounted on solid CO 2 receiver 25 and being surrounded by a vessel 3 cooled by an external refrigerant circulated by a pump 10; the initial amount of liquid CO 2 in the chamber 15 being sufficient to compensate for contraction so that on freezing, the solid CO 2 is contained solely within tubes 2, after which the pressure in chamber 15 is reduced to atmospheric, the closure member 14 is opened and the product CO 2 falls from the tubes 2 into receiver 25.
