1327652 Nuclear fuel REACTOR CENTRUM NEDERLAND (STIGHTING) 22 April 1971 [29 April 1970] 10845/71 Heading G6C [Also in Division C1] Spherical particles are obtained by treating the complex formed in solution by a method of delaying precipitation of metal oxide hydrate by the addition of one or more ammonia-liberating agents to a solution of at least one metal salt or a metal hydroxide sol, or a mixture thereof and causing precipitation by increasing the temperature thereof and in which there is added to the said salt solution or sol together with the said ammonia-liberating agent, two or more complexing agents which form a complex with metal ions present in the said salt solution (see Division C1). The particles may be used in nuclear fuel elements and control rods. Reference is made to the treatment of uranium and thorium salt solutions containing platonium, hafnium, zirconium, yttrium, and rare earth metals.
