1469243 Preparing p - oxybenzoyl polymers in the presence of fillers CARBORUNDUM CO 10 April 1974 [4 Sept 1973] 15829/74 Heading C3R A particulate, filled, insoluble and infusible poxybenzoyl polymer is prepared by dispersing a filler in p-hydroxybenzoic acid or a polyesterforming derivative thereof in a liquid state and carrying out the polycondensation to give the polymer having the filler incorporated therein Preferably, the reaction is carried out in the presence of a high boiling solvent, e.g. a partially hydrogenated terphenyl. The examples describe preparing polymers from (a) p-hydroxybenzoic acid (b) phenyl-p-hydroxybenzoate or (c) p-hydroxybenzoic acid, hydroquinone, terephthalic acid and isophthalic acid in the presence of the following fillers: milled glass fibres of specified dimensions, titanium dioxide, polytetrafluoroethylene and graphite of specified dimensions.
